How to play Sorare? My guide to get started and tutorials
While some players simply collect NFTs in Sorare, the vast majority use their cards to participate in the several tournaments that are organized on the site. I belong to this second category since I always register for each new competition!
For those who are interested in the tournaments, below I’ll explain how to play Sorare. Throughout this guide, we’ll go through the rules of the game and I will also give you some tips that can make a difference in your results!
What is the purpose of Sorare?
Simply put, the goal of the Sorare game is very similar to that of a classic Fantasy League. In each tournament, you must first put together your team by choosing the soccer players from the cards you own. The players shown on the cards then help you earn points based on their actual performance on the field.
With this in mind, you must choose players who take part in a match sometime during the Sorare tournament. Moreover, you must select five players: a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, a striker, and an extra (any position except for the goalkeeper). Depending on the number of points you get, you’ll be assigned a higher or a lower place in the final ranking, with the goal of the tournament being to win rare cards and other types of rewards.
How to get started on Sorare?
Before you’re allowed to participate in your first tournament, you’ll have to follow three mandatory steps: registration, creation of your team, and opening of your first free packs of cards. With my help, this will only take a few minutes!
1. Register an account on Sorare
If this is your first time visiting the Sorare website, you’re required to register an account to play. To create your account, you just have to choose an email address, a username, and a password. You’ll receive a link via email to verify your account on Sorare, so make sure to click on it!
Once this first step is completed, you’ll have to select your favorite teams. This step is very important, as it will determine which free cards you’ll receive afterward! After validating your list of preferred teams, Sorare will share additional information about leagues, rewards, cards, and online purchases with you.
2. Create your team and customize your profile
As with any self-respecting soccer team, you’ll need to think about the identity of your team. You need to choose your name as a player, but also the name of your team and your profile picture. You must find a nickname that hasn’t been used on Sorare yet, which is why I spent more time than I expected on this simple step!
Coming back to your favorite teams, the options you pick will determine the first free cards that will be part of your staff. You shouldn’t take this decision lightly, as it’s irreversible! For instance, I recommend that you select at least five teams and that you opt for different leagues, in order to diversify the possibilities of your free cards.
3. Take advantage of the common free cards
During the registration process, Sorare gives you common cards for free. This means that you’ll be able to put together your first team and participate in your first tournament! These free cards are given to you when you complete certain steps, the first of which is the selection of your favorite teams.
The free cards you receive will depend on the teams you previously picked. In my case, I chose Paris Saint-Germain, Boca Juniors, Ajax Amsterdam, Sporting CP, and Liverpool. I received a few free cards of players from these teams, but also other cards from the French, Argentinean, Dutch, Portuguese and English leagues!
How to buy your first NFT Sorare card?
While the common cards allow you to play Sorare for free, these only let you join smaller tournaments. Sadly, the rewards that coaches receive from free tournaments are minimal. As such, you may want to use paid cards to participate in more interesting competitions, and also to trade them with other coaches.
To buy your first NFT Sorare cards, you need to deposit money into your player account. You can do this via a bank card or wire transfer, or even directly through a crypto-currency wallet. Please check this page if you want to know more about the payment methods. It’s worth mentioning that paid cards are divided into several distinct categories on Sorare. I have already introduced the different types of Sorare cards in this article.
How to participate in your first Sorare tournaments?
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not mandatory to spend money to play in your first Sorare tournaments. However, I recommend that you learn more about how tournaments work before you start competing.
How the competitions on Sorare work
Every week, Sorare organizes one or more tournaments in each category. It all depends on the real-life matches that are happening! It’s the actual performance of the players that will determine the number of points you’ll get. Each tournament has a similar structure to that of a classic Fantasy League.
Before the competition begins, you have to pick five players from your Sorare cards: a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, an attacker, and an extra (any position except for the goalkeeper). At the end of the tournament, the highest-ranked coaches will win the best rewards, including rare cards. Just so you know, the points earned by your players are calculated according to the OptaJean statistics.
The different tournaments on Sorare
There are several types of tournaments on Sorare. To begin with, some competitions are accessible depending on the value of your cards: Common, Limited, Rare, Super Rare, and Unique. Each tournament requires a specific number of cards of the same category. For instance, you need at least three Super Rare cards to participate in a Super Rare tournament.
The requirements of Mix tournaments are more flexible, as all paid cards can be mixed to build your team. Other competitions may have a particular thematic: players under 23, players from the same continent, etc. So your participation in a tournament always depends on the cards you have in your possession.
1. Adopt the right attitude before your first investments
New players are often in a hurry and want to get rare cards right away. I think it’s better to take your time. Once you have registered on Sorare, don’t hesitate to learn more about cards, purchases, and tournaments. The official website has a very complete FAQ in English. At the same time, you can also trust Ultra Sorare, the reference site for a whole community of players!
Likewise, you may want to wait a bit before buying your first cards. I recommend you use your free cards to participate in one or more Common tournaments. This way, you can consolidate your knowledge about how a Sorare competition works.
2.Take advantage of auctions but analyze the market prices
All the new cards released by Sorare are automatically auctioned. Each card has a starting price and coaches have several days to bid on them. The winner is the one who places the highest bid. This system proves to be very advantageous, provided you know all the subtleties.
To begin with, I suggest you consult SorareData as soon as you are interested in a card that has been put up for auction. This will give you a clearer idea of the value of the card and therefore help you avoid spending an inconsiderable amount. You should also follow the soccer news daily to be able to conduct an efficient scouting strategy and spot good deals before the other players.
3. Consider trading on the secondary market (in moderation)
The auction system isn’t the only way to buy Sorare cards. In fact, players can put the NFTs they wish to part with up for sale. The price of each card on the secondary market is set by the seller and cannot be outbid. As such, if you’re interested in a card you must have a proactive approach.
It’s also possible to negotiate directly with a coach, even for cards that haven’t been put up for sale. You can offer money, cards in exchange, or both. The secondary market can be very advantageous if you take the time to look for bargains. It’s the ideal solution for those who want to trade cards and make a profit.
4. Find out the latest news about players and teams
To win a tournament, luck alone isn’t enough. The best coaches are usually those who follow the soccer news daily. You have to select the players who can give you the most points, which means taking into account their current performance, absences, the general ranking, the latest results, the number of goals scored or conceded, etc.
This method will also benefit you when buying cards. For instance, it will allow you to spot up-and-coming players and buy their cards at bargain prices. You can also take advantage of an injury or a team transfer to buy a card at a reduced price in the hope of a good resale.
5. Play Sorare for fun only
I would like to emphasize that Sorare is first and foremost a game. There are opportunities to make money, but it isn’t a profession or a reliable source of income. If you play just for that purpose, it can become counterproductive.
First and foremost, you need to enjoy the role of coach and become knowledgeable about players around the world. It’s by adopting the right mindset that you’ll be able to make a difference!
Conclusion: How to Correctly Play Sorare?
In this article, I have taught you the basics about the game and some strategies to start playing Sorare. You now know the purpose of the game, how tournaments work and some tips to get to the top of the leaderboard!
Again, don’t hesitate to test your free cards in a Common competition to put all this new knowledge into practice. I wish you good luck, and hope that all these tips have been useful to you!
